Launch of Society

Society is a new underground record label primarily doing Electronic Bass Music. It was started by Yetti and Hendease in October 2021.

Yetti is a music producer and Hendease is a DJ. Both of them have been in the industry for over 10 years.

This record label aims to be different than the corporate record labels. The two DJs behind it want to take lesser known artists and make them well known.

Yetti expressed frustration to me that there's so many brilliant artists out there and barely anybody knows about them.

Uncalled for editorial note: It's probably because radio play is a pay for play model. (At least it was in the past) Unless you're willing to sign on to a Evil Corporate Record Label you don't get on the radio, but I am sure there are exceptions.

With the internet there's various ways to get noticed.

Artists are artists. They don't know about advanced search engine optimization, tactics to go viral or maintaining push notification lists. Also pay for play exists on the internet too.

Their debut LP is called SOC001 and features NZ artists such as - Habit, Deadlock, Westfield, Yetti & and their first International artists Jakeeq 3rose & Ekstatic from UK and Revalations from Canada.

As well as working with international artists they have industry connections in the United Kingdom and Canada. Society has their own recording studio based in Kaipoi.

The label currently focuses on Drum And Bass music and has a more feel and they produce it with large sound systems in mind like Subtle Sound System, Boom Candy, Fidelity etc. They eventually want to release tracks in the genres Trap, Future/Bass House, Garage, Hip Hop, Reggae.
